GERMAN VISIT
Two students Master. Mithun and Master.Monish of class IX received schorlorship by Goethe Institut and visited German for 3 weeks 01/07/2017 to 23/07/2017.
A report given by the student....
TRIP TO GERMANY
We got the opportunity to participate
in “Start up with German” competition organized by the Goethe Institut. We had
to make PowerPoint presentations based on topics such as Recycling, Teens and
Leisure and the Internet. This competition was conducted during our exams so we
had to divide our time between the
presentation and academics. We did our best and kept our fingers crossed hoping
that we would get a chance to visit Germany. Three months later, we got the happy
news that we would be flying to Germany for a 3 week visit.
We undertook the preparations for the
visit with great excitement and eagerness. When we met the other participants
for the first time, we were strangers to each other. We set out for Dresden
from Delhi in a Lufthansa Airlines. The flight was very luxurious: pillows and
blankets, adjustable seats, spacious cabins, charge plugs under the hand
support and quick attendees, everything available to make the passenger feel at
home.
As soon as we landed at Dresden
Airport, we were received by the housemaster of our hostel. Dresden has two
distinct parts- Die Altstadt (Old Dresden) and Die Neustadt (New Dresden). Altstadt is mostly the old historical places
in Dresden such as the Alexander Complex, The Lady’s Church, etc. Neustadt is
that part of the city where social life comes alive.
One
thing we all noticed is that Germans are really punctual and active .The street
light allows only 10 seconds for the pedestrians to cross the road. We noticed
that all Germans were across within that
time but we would usually be left standing right in the middle of the road when
the street light turned red.. Most of the youngsters love to use their free
time for sports. We liked the weather there because it was always windy unlike Chennai.
Most Germans own a bicycle and use it often. Each road has a separate bicycle
path to let the cyclists commute easily. Germans have a great concern for the
environment and have a very effective waste disposal system.
We visited Berlin the following week.
Berlin is busier than Dresden- it is comparable to Delhi. Each and every
alleyway had graffiti all over the walls. Berlin has a lot of historic and
interesting places-in particular, the unbroken stretch of the Berlin Wall. We
visited the Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust Memorial. The Memorial was
dedicated to the Jews who were tortured and killed by Hitler. The Reichstag is
the most visited Parliament building because of its dome, from where everyone
can have a 360 degree view of the city. The very air seems to carry a whiff of
the past. Berlin has people from all parts of the world. We were very happy
when we met some Indians.
We visited a lot of castles and
churches, climbed some mountains, and totally had fun in Germany for the entire
period of our stay. We had an unforgettable trip. When we returned, we who had left
as complete strangers to each other, bid tearful farewells at the airport.
This visit was possible only due to the
Goethe Institut and our School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Minambakkam.
We would like to thank our principal,
Mrs.Chitra Mukundan and our teacher of German Mrs.Rajeshwari for giving us this
rare and great opportunity in our lifetime.
